Sustainable Design
At The Other Road Interiors we try our best to make choices that are sustainable.
And we try to take our clients on that journey with us. From a recovered sofa to reusing curtain material for soft furnishings, it feels good to re-use and give favourites a refresh.
Another great way to bring sustainability into your life is a trip to an antique or 2nd hand store. You will find styling treasures for yourself or family and friends, particularly for the holiday season.
My tips for great finds:
Head to smaller towns and villages. On a day trip to Dundalk during summer I found a vintage Waterford vase for a wedding gift (that I took all the way home to Australia), it was unique and special.
See through the grime. Sometimes items are clustered on a shelf without much TLC. See past this, a quick cleanup can transform pieces.
Cluster colours. Especially glass, which can come in unlimited colours, shapes and textures. Take the opportunity to keep an eye out for your favourite colours and build a collection for your shelves and mantels. Personally I can be partial to blue glass or pottery
